Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:13-15).
Over the weekend I learned that another high school classmate had passed away. These deaths of people my age are happening all too quickly which, I suppose, is a sign of my own advancing age. It is also a reminder to me that our lives are but a mist. Yet, we all have a promise of eternity. That promise is a blessing to those who are in Christ Jesus. That promise is a curse to those who do not have the covering of Christ’s righteousness and, therefore, will face the judgment and wrath of their Creator. If you do not have the righteousness of Jesus Christ today, do not delay. You too are but a mist.
