“No group of mere humans could overcome and kill the Son of God against God’s will. Therefore, it must be God himself who delivered Jesus over to crucifixion. Jesus told Pontius Pilate,
“You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above” (John 19:11a),
and Isaiah tells us that
“it was the will of the LORD to crush him” (Isaiah 53:10).
John Piper writes, “The ultimate answer to the question, Who crucified Jesus? is: God did. It is a staggering thought. Jesus was his Son. And the suffering was unsurpassed. But the whole message of the Bible leads to this conclusion” (Casey Lute, But God, p. 62).
Some other verses that confirm that it was God who delivered Jesus up for crucifixion:
This Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men (Acts 2:23).
But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled (Acts 3:18).
But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone (Heb 2:9).
